The European Commission has unveiled a sweeping strategy to make Europe the world’s first electro-powered continent. By launching a new Electrification Action Plan alongside a major review of the Emissions Trading System, the Commission aims to boost industrial competitiveness, accelerate decarbonization, and permanently break the region's reliance on imported fossil fuels. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that powering the economy with clean, homegrown electricity is the most effective way to reduce energy dependency, bring relief to European industries, and keep the green transition on track.
