Siemens and Machine Tool Leaders forge groundbreaking AI data alliance

Siemens and a group of leading machine tool manufacturers have launched a pioneering data-sharing alliance designed to unlock the full potential of artificial intelligence in industrial manufacturing.

The alliance includes Siemens, Grob, Trumpf, Chiron, Renishaw, Heller, the Machine Tool Laboratory (WZL) of RWTH Aachen, and the Voith Group. Together, they will systematically exchange engineering, manufacturing, and machine data to develop next-generation generative AI applications for industrial environments.

This collaboration represents a decisive step towards Siemens’ vision of an industry-specific AI model – the Siemens Industrial Foundation Model – first introduced at Hannover Messe 2025.

Industrial AI in Action

One early application is the automated generation of part programs for machine tools. Traditionally time-intensive and error-prone, this process could be dramatically accelerated with AI while reducing coding errors. Programmers would be freed from routine tasks and able to focus on more complex, value-adding challenges.

Along with our customers and partners, we are taking a significant step today to scale industrial AI. By making our companies’ unique data treasure available to create generative AI models, we can achieve totally new levels of productivity. Busch emphasised the opportunity for Europe’s industrial economy – spanning automotive, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, mechanical engineering, energy, healthcare, infrastructure, and transport – to benefit from AI-driven productivity gains.

Unlocking Productivity with Data

The alliance will share anonymised machine data in compliance with strict data protection and security standards. This data will be used to develop AI models tailored to the requirements of industrial manufacturing.

Potential use cases include:

1. Automated NC program generation – accelerating production planning with fewer errors.
2. Predictive maintenance – delivering precise, machine-specific forecasts.
3. Adaptive manufacturing processes – enabling real-time adjustments to changing conditions.
4. Energy-efficiency optimisation – intelligently controlling machine parameters to cut costs and emissions.
