Schneider Electric announces agreement to acquire Cognite

In a major move to solidify its foothold in the industrial artificial intelligence sector, French energy management and automation giant Schneider Electric announced Tuesday it will acquire software provider Cognite in an all-cash transaction worth $3.1 billion.

The acquisition, announced on June 30, 2026, aims to merge Cognite’s advanced AI and data contextualization tools with AVEVA, Schneider Electric’s wholly owned industrial software subsidiary.

Schneider Electric executives highlighted that Cognite’s cloud-native platform is the missing puzzle piece. By integrating Cognite’s agentic AI and data capabilities into AVEVA’s existing CONNECT platform, Schneider intends to allow industrial infrastructure to adapt and act autonomously, rather than just passively relaying information.

Schneider Electric CEO Olivier Blum praised Cognite’s technology, noting that the company has successfully developed an industrial-grade AI platform capable of turning complex operational data into a distinct competitive advantage. Blum emphasized that the energy transition heavily relies on intelligent systems, which in turn require robust data and AI to unlock their full potential.

The integration of Cognite’s core technologies will serve as the enterprise-wide data foundation for AVEVA, combining engineering, operational, and enterprise data into a single, actionable knowledge graph.

Industrial AI integration, and the deployment of agentic data ecosystems will be central themes at the next years Go Digital Energy Conference. The international forum brings together leading technology pioneers, energy operators, and industrial solution providers to explore real-world deployment strategies and the continuous evolution toward autonomous infrastructure.
