China-based industrial conglomerate SANY Group reportedly intends, through its Singaporean subsidiary, to join forces with its Romanian partner for the largest hybrid energy project in Europe. It values the investment at just over EUR 1 billion.
Located in Timiș County, the massive development includes:
Two 800 MW solar parks (each among the largest in the EU).
A 2.34 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS).
A 70 MW data center near Timișoara, positioned on a major European data highway.
SANY will finance the venture and supply core equipment, including solar panels from its fully robotic factory in China. The project is managed by former Romanian MP Mugurel Surupăceanu until it reaches commercial operation. This move significantly expands SANY’s renewable footprint in the region, following its recent wind energy investments in Serbia.
