Turkish Gemont let a contract with TAIF Group for construction of Ethylene-600

Turkish Gemont let a contract with TAIF Group for construction of Ethylene-600

The contract to perform the complex of construction and installation works under the project The Construction of EP-600 Olefin Complex' was signed at the headquarters of TAIF PSC - Realnoye vremya reports.

The new olefin complex will be built in Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan. In the first expansion stage, it will have the capacity to produce 600,000 tonnes of ethylene and over 600,000 tonnes of other chemical products per year. The annual production capacity will be doubled in the future through the addition of a further plant.

The new plant is a naphtha cracker that thermally breaks down hydrocarbon feedstocks – naphtha in this case – into olefins such as ethylene, propene and butadiene. These are then used as feedstocks for manufacturing various plastics. The new olefin plant is scheduled to go on stream in 2022.

In 2017 German Linde Engineering has won a contract to provide licensing, design, material procurement and technical engineering consulting for PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim’s.

Today's signing of the contract is another milestone in the life of this project. The licensor is Linde, Germany. Now we have selected the builders — Gemont company. Local organizations will be actively involved in the process.

Azat Bikmurzin, General Director, Nizhnekamskneftekhim

With signing the construction and installation contract it is expected that the project will get the "green light". The contractors promise that we will see the effect of the project quickly enough.

We are starting to implement it in the shortest possible time and at a very high pace. The work will last 3 years and will be carried out both by the Turkish side and with the help of local companies. In particular, by the middle of 2021, the number of employees on the site will be about 6,000.

Muhittin Aktas, Member of the Board of Directors and General Director, Gemont

The Ethylene 600 project is the doubling of Nizhnekamskneftekhim's capacity. Moreover, this is not just new pyrolysis facilities, but the pyrolysis of liquid raw materials, which is a much more complex technology than gas pyrolysis.
