Sibur will take part in PP and PE projects in Kazakhstan

Bolat Akchulakov, the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan discussed with Sibur CEO Dmitry Konov the construction of a polypropylene plant with a capacity of 500,000 tons per year, as well as plans to commence the design stage for a polyethylene production project with a capacity of 1.25 million tons per year - Rupec

According to Akchulakov, the construction of the plant for the production of polypropylene has been completed, with commissioning works currently underway. In April, it is planned to conduct an operational and demonstration run with further commissioning works.

The of Sibur, in turn, said that by the end of April 2022, relevant documents would be signed on the participation of Sibur Holding in projects for the production of polypropylene and polyethylene. In addition, interest was expressed in the joint implementation of projects in the field of gas processing based on raw materials from the Kashagan field, according to a press release.

At the end of December, it was reported that Kazmunaigas had completed the main construction at the gas chemical complex of Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries Inc. (KPI) in Atyrau region. After commissioning, the plant will produce more than 65 different grades of polypropylene.

In October 2021, Sibur, Samruk-Kyzyna and Kazmunaigas signed agreements on the basic terms of cooperation on petrochemical projects in Kazakhstan. This agreement was in context of the construction of a plant for the production of polyethylene with a capacity of 1.25 million tons per year, as well as a plant for the production of polypropylene with a capacity of 500 thousand tons per year. Sibur's stake in both joint ventures will be 40%.
