Kazakhstan to build four gas processing plants with a total capacity of roughly 10 billion cubic metres

The construction of a new gas processing plant with a capacity of 900 million cubic metres in the Kazakh city of Zhanaozen will begin by autumn this year said Prime Minister, Alikhan Smailov.

According to the Prime Minister a number of projects are planned to solve the gas industry's problematic issues in the medium term.

The construction of a gas processing plant with a total capacity of more than one billion cubic metres is progressing in the Kashagan field. Additionally, the construction of another gas processing plant in Kashagan with a capacity of four billion cubic metres is in the planning phase. A decision was made to build a gas processing plant with a capacity of four billion cubic metres at the Karachaganak field. Also, additional exploration work will be carried out in the regions with a total estimated gas resource of 650 billion cubic metres.

Previously, RUPEC reported that the construction of a new gas processing plant in the city of Zhanaozen is planned to be completed in 2025. The Samruk-Kazyna Fund, together with KazMunaiGas, conducted a pre-FEED and feasibility study (hereinafter referred to as the feasibility study). They received a positive a conclusion on the state examination for the feasibility study, as well as a conclusion on the environmental impact assessment.

The plant operating in Zhanaozen, KazGPZ, is heavily depreciated. The new plant is designed in accordance with international standards with a raw gas processing capacity of 900 million metres cubed per year.
