Investments in construction of polyethylene complex in Kazakhstan estimated to be at $7.6 billion

The joint venture between KazMunayGas and Sibur, "Silleno", is investing $7.6 billion in the creation of the first polyethylene production complex in Kazakhstan. This move follows actions laid out in the Comprehensive Plan for the Development of the Largest Oil and Gas and Petrochemical Projects in Kazakhstan from 2023-2027.

The project is planned to be implemented form 2023-2028 at the expense of private and borrowed funds.

The polyethylene complex with the capacity of 1.25 million tons is planned to be located near the polypropylene plant in the special economic zone, Karabatan, in the Atyrau region. Finished products are planned to be sent to the domestic market and for export. The capacity of the domestic market has reached 180 thousand tons annually with an annual growth of 4%. The remaining volumes will be exported to CIS countries and China.

KazMunayGas has signed license agreements for the implementation of this project with world industry leaders, Chevron Philips Chemical and Univation Technologies. It is expected that the design and estimate documentation will be ready this year.
