Construction at GTL plant picks up

The Oltin Yo’l gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant is 90.5% complete, according to the latest announcement from Uzbekneftegaz (UNG), suggesting the project has moved only 0.5% since early August. Source: Uzbekistan Energy Monitor

Construction and installation work is 75.2% complete, up from 73% three weeks ago, and is on track to be completed by the end of the year, UNG said on 10 October.

This suggests that despite the apparent slowdown caused by the coronavirus outbreak on-site in June, the timetable remains officially unchanged. There are around 11,000 employees working on the project site, up from 9,500 three weeks ago and level with the workforce figures reported in early June, days before the outbreak.

With some 1,000 pieces of equipment in use, construction is moving forward ‘at a very active pace’ in several shifts, the note added. The GTL plant appeared stalled last month, with the 90% completion rate announced at the time being identical to the figure given in early August.

The plant operator said on 19 September it was aiming to begin supplying power to the plant and commission the auxiliary equipment this month. UNG reported last week it was building a meter station and associated pipelines on-site. Staged commissioning is scheduled for 2021.
