Bureau Veritas, Kongsberg Digital enable ship-to-class data exchange

Bureau Veritas (BV) and Kongsberg Digital have introduced new capabilities covering digitally optimised ship machinery maintenance.

Machinery maintenance data can be transferred to classification society BV’s Machinery Maintenance application (MMA) direct from the vessel operator’s own maintenance management system through Kongsberg’s K-Fleet software.

The first connection between BV’s MMA and a vessel owner’s computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) went live 3 April on a Furetank tanker, using K-Fleet and the vessel’s communications technology.

Furetank will then push its planned maintenance system and survey data to BV’s MMA. The class society can use this data to prepare periodical audits with greater speed and efficiency.

“This is a significant step forward in supporting shipowners, operators and managers with their machinery maintenance requirements. This collaboration with Kongsberg highlights our ambition to take advantage of new technology and data exchange to advance digitalisation to support class surveys and our clients with their digital transformation.”

Laurent Hentges, Vice President for Digital Dolutions and Transformation, BV

BV intends to replicate this first connection with other shipowners and their CMMS. Data acquired will also open the door for data analytics and optimised maintenance models in the future.
