MET Group inaugurates Hungary’s largest battery energy storage facility

MET Group has officially launched a battery electricity storage plant with a total nominal power output of 40 MW and a storage capacity of 80 MWh (2-hour cycle). This facility represents the latest addition to MET’s series of investments in BESS projects throughout Europe.

Located at the Dunamenti Power Station in Százhalombatta, MET previously established a 4 MW / 8 MWh demonstrator plant featuring Tesla Megapack 2 batteries in 2022. With the commissioning of this new BESS plant, MET Group and the Dunamenti Power Station are enhancing their role in Hungary’s energy transition. The combined storage capacity of all BESS units on site would be adequate to meet the entire decorative and public lighting requirements of Budapest for four hours. The equipment supplier is Huawei Technologies, while Forest-Vill Ltd serves as the project’s main contractor.

The application of battery energy storage systems is a key element on the road to energy transition, as they allow to increase the penetration of new renewable sources into the power grid.

Through its sustained investments in BESS projects across Europe, including the recent acquisition of French battery storage operator and developer Comax in 2024, MET Group is responding to the growing demand for balancing technologies essential for the energy transition. Additionally, MET is advancing technologically, making substantial investments in co-located storage facilities that are being developed alongside solar parks in various European nations.
