KMG PetroChem, Tecnimont partner for the Tengiz GSC project in Kazakhstan

The formal signing ceremony for the previously awarded Tengiz Gas Separation Complex (GSC) project took place at the KMG PetroChem headquarters in the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan. The event was attended by representatives from KMG PetroChem and TECNIMONT, a subsidiary of MAIRE, which is spearheading the consortium responsible for the project’s development.

Anticipated completion of the project is set for the first quarter of 2029. Once operational, the gas processed by the GSC will supply the Silleno petrochemical plant (2nd phase production – polyethylene), which is also being developed by TECNIMONT in the region.

KMG PetroChem is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kazakhstan’s national oil and gas company, KazMunayGas, and is at the forefront of petrochemical development projects throughout the country.

Both the GSC and the Silleno petrochemical complex are groundbreaking initiatives in Kazakhstan, notable for their scale and technological advancements. This marks the first time that projects of such scope and complexity are being implemented in the nation.

We are honored to take part in this landmark initiative with KMG Petrochem. The Tengiz Gas Separation Complex represents a strategic milestone for us, reinforcing our long-term commitment to Kazakhstan and the broader Central Asian region. This project not only showcases our technological and execution capabilities but also accelerates Kazakhstan’s industrial development through next-generation, large-scale gas and petrochemical plants.

Alessandro Bernini, Chief Executive Officer of MAIRE

The GSC is designed to recover at least 98% of ethane from dry gas, while the Silleno complex aims to produce high-quality petrochemical products.
