This focus day is part of the 10th anniversary of Downstream Central Asian & Caspian conference.
Hosting a focus day on the potential of hydrogen production in Kazakhstan is an ideal choice due to the recent Memorandum of Understanding between the EU and Kazakhstan on a strategic partnership in the field of raw materials, batteries and renewable hydrogen. During COP-27 in Egypt the president of the European Commission and prime minister of Kazakhstan signed this agreement.
During the Hydrogen Focus Day participants will discuss the progress made in clean hydrogen projects in the region and explore ways to further develop the hydrogen industry.
KEEP ME UPDATED ABOUT HYDROGEN FOCUS DAYGreen Hydrogen Production Plant – Svevind 2030-2032
It is assumed that the implementation of the project will allow exporting electricity to the EU countries. It is planned that the start of production will take place in 2030, and the power plant will reach full capacity by 2032. The capacity is 2 million tons of green hydrogen per year, which is equivalent to about one fifth of the EU’s stated goal of importing green hydrogen by 2030.
Green Hydrogen Production Plant – Fortescue Future Industries
The Government of Kazakhstan and Fortescue Future Industries have signed a Framework agreement on the implementation of projects for the production of “green” hydrogen in several regions of the republic, including Atyrau and Mangystau regions

The role of regulation, standards, and certification is vital in developing a hydrogen economy in the country. It is important to develop business models that support investment in hydrogen projects.
Focus on petrochemicals: production of low-carbon ammonia and methanol
Hydrogen has the potential to decarbonize industries including petrochemicals. In 2050, hydrogen could contribute more than 20 percent of annual global emissions reductions.
