KEY TOPICS

Policy and Connectivity: Building the Foundation for a Net-Zero Future
Azerbaijan aims to make its energy mix 30% greener by 2030, while Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan push forward with clean energy laws and grid upgrades. Regulatory reforms, tax incentives, and cross-border infrastructure are essential to enable investment. This session explores how regional cooperation and policies are accelerating the net-zero transition.
Mobilising Capital: Financing the Energy Transition
This session looks at how public-private partnerships, green bonds, and subsidies are enabling clean energy growth. Azerbaijan’s Green Energy Zone, Uzbekistan’s PPA frameworks, and Kazakhstan’s cooperation with international lenders highlight regional momentum. Success depends on clear regulation, long-term offtake agreements, and policies that de-risk investment across the region.
Integrating Renewables into the Grid: Challenges and Innovation
With projects like Azerbaijan’s 230 MW Garadagh Solar Plant and planned offshore wind in the Caspian, grid integration is becoming more complex. This session explores how storage technologies, digital tools, and hybrid systems improve energy utilisation and balance. It will also address transmission challenges and the role of cross-border grid synchronisation in enhancing regional energy stability.
Innovative Technologies Driving the Energy Transition
This session explores how the region is advancing scalable solutions for industrial decarbonisation. From CCUS in refineries and fertiliser plants to low-carbon hydrogen, biofuels, and energy efficiency, innovation is essential to cutting emissions. SOCAR and BP are piloting low-carbon initiatives in Azerbaijan, while Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are integrating CCUS and hydrogen in key industrial zones.
Green Hydrogen Horizons: Scaling Up Production and Infrastructure
Green hydrogen gains traction in the region. Key challenges include water scarcity, the need for desalination, high production costs, and infrastructure demands. This session will also explore export potential and EU offtake opportunities through emerging regional energy corridors.

I’d like to thank the organisers for the insightful presentations, especially from our American colleagues, including USAID. They presented the concept of "fertile valleys," which is a great approach. The European experience was also valuable, where zones for developing the hydrogen economy are determined by taking into account resources such as renewable energy, water, and potential consumers.

The conference was very interesting. I attended and spoke last year as well, and I have to say that this year, there’s definitely more awareness about green hydrogen. What stands out for me is that people are now discussing topics that weren’t even considered before in this region.

I found the conference very interesting and comprehensive, covering a wide range of topics with high-quality discussions. All the presentations were excellent, making it hard to single out one as better than the others. This was my first time in Kazakhstan and at this conference, and I’m very happy to have been part of it.

New companies in Azerbaijan are focusing on green energy, including green hydrogen. For me, the highlight of this event was seeing the latest technologies, developments in hydrogen, and the challenges we face. It's clear that the challenges we encounter in Azerbaijan are shared by hydrogen providers worldwide, which reassures us that we are on the right path.
