Sberbank has entered into an agreement on strategic cooperation with the AEON investment corporation to create methanol production on the basis of the Volgograd “Khimprom”, Rupec reported.
The document was signed by the Chairman of the Board of Sberbank Herman Gref and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of AEON Corporation Roman Trotsenko. As the press service of Sberbank explained, the agreement will contribute to the development of a comprehensive dialogue in the framework of the project to create one of the largest methanol production complexes in the Russian Federation with a capacity of at least 1 million tons per year on the basis of the VOJSC Khimprom in Volgograd.
“This project is of great social and economic importance for the Volgograd region, as it will not only contribute to the restoration of the activities of a major productive asset that has decayed but will also expand and diversify its potential. The high professionalism of the management and expertise in solving complex problems makes us confident in the AEON’s ability to implement this project, ” – noted G. Gref.
In turn, Chairman of the AEON board of directors, Roman Trotsenko, said that the construction of a methanol production plant is the first stage of the company’s strategy to create a multi-chemical cluster in the Volgograd region.
In September 2018, it was officially announced that it was planned to start production of methanol with a capacity of over 1 million tons at the site of the stopped at the Khimprom JSC. The project partners will be RDIF, Marubeni Corporation and AEON Infrastructure Corporation.
GTM ONE and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engineering Ltd. will prepare the project engineering, as well as the main technological solutions. AEON Corporation and RDIF agreed on the terms of “shareholder financing”, the details of which were not disclosed. The investments are forecasted to amount to over $800.
